Just wanted to say that I very much regret the passing away of The Outlaws guitarist- vocalist Hughie Thomasson. He meant a great deal to me in my formative years of "wanting" to be a musician. His haunting voice, volume swells on his Strat, and over-all killer playing just, well ... Yeah, I do all that now, PROBABLY HALF AS GOOD AS HE DID but now he's not here anymore. I will miss him.

Being in Central Florida all my life, I've seen the man perform more times than I can count. Many of the Outlaw's classics still remain in my rotation. They really bridged the gap between country and rock. All those "Rock Superbowls" ago....................RIP. It's suckin' more and more to get old.

When I was the guitarist in the Michael Murphey band in the mid 70's, we toured with the Outlaws, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, etc. for weeks and weeks. It's a wonder that anyone in those bands lived beyond that decade based on the amount of Jack and unamed contolled substances that were consumed on an hourly basis. The Caldwell brothers checked out long ago. Excess was the rule, but Henry Paul managed to push that envelope so far that even his fellow Outlaws couldn't deal with it, and he was canned that night in New Orleans, unable to stand for the show at the Wharehouse. It was an interesting time. Lots of friends are no longer above ground, but I saw some awesome performances night after night. Three guitarists seemed like overkill sometimes, but they managed to stay out of each others way, and they certainly lit a fire under the crowd. I vaguely remember Hughie -- they were all nice. Just kids turned loose in an era where anything went. Rest in peace.

Hey Rich, thanks for the post. Rock and Roll ain't pretty sometimes, huh ? Man, I always loved Toy Caldwell's playing on the old MTB records. And still do. All those guys were great. Looking back into those years, and into the '80's, it was nuts at times. Hell, I wouldn't trade those days for new ones. It was what it was. No regrets. Well maybe a few....
No matter - ya can't turn back the clock, just gotta Forge ahead. JC
