I'll bite Dee-DUB - Candy Apple Green nitro re-fin loaded up with White EMG's, Gold hardware. The figure in that neck looks sweet by the way -
Best of luck on that ! JC

Natural with a hint of burst on the edges.

I am not sure how well it will lend itself to a trans finish? I was thinking going with the trans orange Gretsch color, but it all depends on how much work I am going to need to do to it. If not I may go with a vintage Fender color like Inca Silver, Lake Placid Blue or maybe even Sea Foam...the sky is the limit!
First things first, I have got to get the rest of the thick poly off of it! I will post pics as it progesses.

Darren:
Gold or silver sparkle w/ a matching "flake" headstock or a black headstock. You don't see Robin sparkle guitars. Greg's recent blue and green sparkle Rangers make me dream of gold or silver. Perfect project for it.
Back to discussing what's important, Darren. Robin guitars. Sorry we got cross-ways.

DaveR-
You are right, Robins are the important thing!
I ran into a buddy last night, we discussed the guitar...I have to agree with him, if the only thing I have to stress over is what color to paint the guitar, that is a good thing!

Make it opalescent sparkly like this guys lips from Pretty Boy Floyd. Then delete this message from the Robin board, so no one knows I said it.

I am going to paint this Medley a vintage Fender color. It will be a nitro finish, but which color it will be is still up in the air?
Does anyone here know if a heat gun will get hot enough to assist in stripping the remaning paint and sealer?

Bigdaddycool: Those are nice bodies. Why you think he only does bolt-on necks? Set necks too hard to mask?

Oh hey Randy,
I'm not real sure why the guy doesn't do set neck guitars. I'd imagine they would be harder to mask but not much harder.
He seems to be a great guy to do sparkle finishes since GMP isn't in business anymore ... although the GMP painter is online as "paintguy" or something ...
Shoot... Dave Wintz knows about all the paint guys I'm sure.
You could probably order all kinds of custom finishes on a new guitar.
I wish the website had more photo's of some of the killer graphix & custom paint jobs that Robin's put out over the years.
One of my dream guitars is a neck through multi laminate / custom painted Machete with a Floyd.
My first Robin Experience back in about 1990 was with a kid named Roy Ashen that Dave used to sponsor.
Man those Machete's were the most beautiful cutting edge guitars I had ever seen first hand.
Just blew my Hamer Proto's out of the water. (Although man my 80's Hamer's played GREAT)
Oh yea... Refin...
I used GMW Guitar Works for a couple refin jobs...
They're very reasonable & do great work.

Marty Bell does great sparkle finishes. He used to do all the sparkle work for G&L. Marty used to work at Rockin' Robin and do re-finishing part-time. He has REALLY quick turn around times from what I hear.

Thanks Ken,
I had a G&L Bass that Marty was supposed to refin...I'd left it with Fuller when I moved from Houston...9 month later Marty was still not around, doing a bunch of work @ G&L... I had Fuller bring the bass to me at a Dallas show, and NATURALLY Marty appeared in Houston the following week. 12 years later, the bass is still ready for paint. "HMMMMMMMM..." Could this be the year???

I had a John Jorgenson G&L done by Marty, very nice. I thought about having it done it a metal flake finish but after looking at the prices I have decided to stick with my original plan!
If someone out there wants a Medley project let me know!!! It is complete with pickups, floyd and all the other little tid bits, pots, neck plate etc etc. Drop me an email I may be willing to part with it!
