Just found this form. Have a red Robin double I bought new in the 80's. It's one of 300 pieces in my collection. An acquaintence has been trying to buy it from me for several years. I don't want to sell it, even though it's only been plugged in twice, but am interested in knowing the value.
Help would surely be appreciated!

Please post a photo.
Do you have the case?

Yes, I have the case in new condition. I'll get a photo next week. There's not a mark on the instrument. Have the tremolo bar and any paperwork that came with it. Never been on a job. Still has the original strings. It's just like the one on the Vaughan video, but red body.

Does it look like the one in this photo?

Yes. It's the one in the photo, but I have the tremolo bar, which is not in the photo.
I just pulled it out, and it's so nice, I'm not sure I would ever get rid of it. It would just be nice to find out what it's worth. I know one sold for a phenominal amount at a Clapton auction a few years ago, but that's because IT WAS A CLAPTON AUCTION and it was donated by Jimmy Vaughn.
Thanks,
Russ

Maybe you meant to say it is "just like" the one in the photo? I am pretty sure the tremolo bar from the one in the photo is in the case... in my house. ;)

I think the reason that one sold for $45,000 dollars is because it is the actual guitar used by Jimmy and Stevie for their famous duet. Plus, that price was a bargain compared to all the other guitars sold at Clapton's auction.
Their were only approximately 25 RDN's made. About 10 metallic red and 15 two-tone sunburst. They were made in Japan by ESP. The ones I have seen sell have sold for between $750 and $1,500.

Thanks, Ken. My tremolo bar is in the case, too. Looks like we have 20% of the world's supply of this particular red Robin double (red Robin...HA HA!). I thought it might be worth a little more, but would keep it if it were twice your numbers.
Knew Robins of the time were made in Japan, but didn't know they were made by ESP.
Didn't buy it as a investment piece anyway. The Savoy looks like an intertesting instrument. It is semi-hollow? Are there hi-breds with piezo and magnetic pick-ups?
I have all my collectibles tracked with average appreciation, but some of my favorites are ones I bought never expecting to make any money on.
Interesting little forum. this is the only Robin i have, so I will probably not be here much, but I'll check in every few weeks to see if anything interesting surfaces.
Take care,
Russ

By the way, Ken, I think I have the same photo background. Nice photo. Looks lik you used a studio strobe system; probably with a softbox. Is the back of this background a little more colorful (a few more subtle colors over the grey)?
BTW, how's the best way to get a good price on a Savoy? Don't think there are any Robin dealers in this area.
Thanks,
Russ
