It took me a few years, but I finally obtained my first Robin guitar and I'm very pleased. The neck feels great and is very fast. The tone is the best dirty Strat type tone I've heard to date. Based on the serial number I determined that this Ranger was made in 1994. Does anyone know what type of finish was used back then? This one has a shiny gloss finish that has held up extremely well over the last 15 years. Other than one chip on the back and a couple of headstock chips the guitar looks almost new. This one does not have the hand rubbed oil finish that was offered as an option.

Polyurethane.

Thanks! That's what I thought, but couldn't find anything to confirm it. The seller thought it was Nitro, but I had my doubts as soon as I saw and felt it.

Great guitar.. I ordered one in 97'.... My main squeeze ever since.... Why the tele style stayed and the strat style got dumped is beyond me..:).... Maybe we should start a petition...... PLEASE>>>>>>>

I think a Ranger is as much reminiscent of a Strat as a Wrangler/Rawhide is a Tele.
Robin hasn't made any Fender "copies" of either style in a very long time (and the Wrangler was never as close to the Tele as the Revival was to the Strat), so I wouldn't say that either style "stayed."

The Tonemonger is the closest thing we have to a Strat.....should do the trick
