I have a artisan serial #1005. I got it about 12 years ago & allways thought Gibson should have made this design & just about fell over when I seen it the first time. I have put duncan pickups & sperzel tuners in it. I do have the pick guard but I think it looks better without it. The playability of this guitar is outstanding.

If anyone can tell me how to read the serial # like year, is it #5 or #105? & how many they made in each color that would be great.

Hey Tom. Sorry for my tardy reply. I've been out of town for the last week or so and had limited access to the internet.

Every Artisan I have seen has the serial number hand written inside the control cavity - except for one, which has a unique history. See the thread here:

http://robinlovers.com/discus/messages/6/713.html

When I inspected the guitar in the above thread it had the same type of serial number on the back of the headstock as yours does. All of the Artisans with serial numbers inside the control cavity are numbered sequentially from 0001-???. I own 0072 and 0081, which can be seen here:

You can do a search on this site fo rmore Artisan info, but here's an old post where I gave a brief overview:

Well here it is.

There is one major differance that you may notice, the four piece top which denotes that this was the NAMM show Guitfiddle for that year.

Thanks Dave will be intouch.
