Hi Folks - I'm relatively new to bass playing after 22 years of playing 6-string guitar. Never was a noteworthy guitar player, but enjoyed playing nevertheless.
I started playing bass about a year ago in our Church Praise Band (we didn't need 3 guitar players!). I absolutely love the bass, and wish I had picked one up years and years ago! I think I could get pretty good at it in due time with lots of practice.
I started with an acoustic Ibanez AEB10EBK bass, but eventually sold it. Then about 6 months ago picked up a Yamaha BB-1600 (black with gold fixin's) which I absolutely love. Wow is the Yamaha a well made instrument, and it plays and sounds great!
I soon thereafter decided I would do something I had always wanted to do for 22 years...start a guitar collection. Just a small one. So I bought a black Fender Jazz Aerodyne with Bartolini P/J Pickups, and it plays like a dream! Wow! Then I bought a Lakland 55-02 Skyline Deluxe 5-string with Bartolini pickups and added it to the collection. What a nice instrument!
Then I thought I would buy one more bass and finish my collection - a fretless MusicMan Stringray. In the process of searching, I saw a fretless Robin Freedom Bass I. My jaw hit the ground! Very pretty, but I'd never heard of Robin guitars before. So I did some research, and decided this was a no-brainer.
I can't put this bass down! It sounds great, plays great, and is easily my favorite bass guitar.
I'm going to try and attach a picture here, and I think the serial number is 6001 (if the number on the neck plate is the serial number). I'd love to know more about the guitar - are these Rio Grande pickups, or Dimarzio, or some other? The de-fretting was done aftermarket, but it was pretty well done. Lots of "MWAHHH", even with flatwounds.
Thanks for letting me ramble. I see why there's a board devoted to these awesome guitars.
May God Bless You!
