View Full Version : Typical Discount on a Robin

I'm looking for a new Ranger Slabtop Supreme. I contacted Moe's and they pretty much offered 10% off of retail. Not a good deal! Feeling... Should I just wait for a used one on eBay? Question: Any benefit to buy new? Can I specify my neck size / thickness? Can, I approve the top? Can I buy directly from Robin? I've already bought custom guitars to spec for the same price. Does Robin offer this?

I am in the same boat as you, and the retailer with the Robin I want offers a 30% discount, but marks up the list price 4 to 5 hundred dollars. I haven't decided whether to pay it or buy used yet. I inquired as to having it custom made but was told there was a six month wait, I would die before then. I have bought guitars off the ebay and have been disappointed..granted they were not Robins though.

Call me guys. No bullshit, great guitars. Not many dealers actually use Robins on stage, WE DO!

Greg, Is that red Avalon on your website the only Robin you have in stock? I keep checking back on the site from time to time, just window shopping, but never see any other Robins.

Actually, Kane, that's the very Avalon Custom that you see on the Main page of the Robin site.
We rarely have them hanging on the wall because they go so fast. We mainly do custom orders exactly like the customer wants it. Here are a few of the guitars that we have done recently... http://robinlovers.com/discus/messages/5/1233.jpg

Either Greg,or I will be able to take care of you guys in an appropriate, and timely manner. We also use Robin guitars on stage, and sell them at a reasonable discount to our customers. These guitars cry out to be played, and making them attainable to players is our primary concern.Price gouging is not on the menu here,so feel free to shop us.You may be surprised.Big John(Joyful Noise Music)1-440-632-1663

Howdy Gang-
First off, thanks so much for your enthusiasm for Robin Guitars and constant participation on this forum. I head straight to robinlovers every day right after I pour my first cup of coffee and have a blast reading what you all have to say.
Rest assured that while the fine, independent dealers offering Robin Guitars have different discounts, each of our instruments are one of a kind beauties. We don't play the pricing games that the major manufacturers and their mega market chain distributors play such as jacking up the list prices because we are so busy pouring a ton of love, sweat, expertise, and craftsmanship into guitars that will inspire discriminating guitaritsts everywhere. We are proud to work with dealers that share our passion for quality and provide unrivaled service for a very fair price on our hand-crafted guitars that sound, play, and look amazing.
All the best from the factory,
Allen

I love the dealer it's a great store and great service but they do jack up the list in a big way. I think it's just a matter of trying to work a deal, which I hate, but it's going to have to be done. Thanks BCR and John, you guys are definitely straight shooters but I'm in Houston and want to play the first Robin I buy before I buy it...I bought my last guitar sight unseen and I promised myself I was not going to that this time. After I have my first one, I'll be able to handle the wait and will want one built for me I'm sure...

I gave Greg a call and was very impressed by his enthusiasm and desire to assist. My starting wish list includes: Robin Ranger Slabtop Supreme, 9.5" radius neck, Slim C neck profile, medium jumbo frets, possible f-hole, Oh, I love his flamed maple necks.
The f-hole concept came from a Benedict GrooveMaster that I custom ordered and had to return back to Benedect. What a fantistic sound. The Ranger is chambered, so maybe it can support the f-hole.

Ooooh,F holes in a Slabtop Ranger! Are you listening Dave? That sounds tasty.

Although I agree that it would be a waste of about 21/2 to 3 square inches of maple it is still something that would make a customer happy, and the fact is:happy customers play harder, love longer, bathe more frequently, buy more often, and live forever.ha,ha

I can name another top company that is researching / gearing up for a strat type guitar with the f-hole. Unfortunately, I was told to keep my lips sealed and I respect their request. Your can call it a waste of maple and then watch along the sideline as other luithers take advantage.

After begging and pleading with the goys, I have been told that an F hole is possible.
Now we wait while the economics are applied.

Awesome, love or hate the f hole, the guys at Robin need to make small considerations now and again to keep the customer base growing. If this is what it takes to stay leaps and bounds above the rest then so be it.Lead,Follow,or get out of the way!

Look guys, all I did was voice my personal opinion on that particular model. I love chambered bodies; I don't care if they cut an F-hole in 'em. Standing two feet from a drummer wailing away you probably don't care either, tonally. I have no doubt that (a) Robin Guitars CAN build a Ranger F-hole if you order it, (b) it will look better than the F-hole strats I've seen. Whether it's something they should offer as a "stock" item, well, I suspect demand will prevail.
There, now that that's out of the way...

what about a wrangler with an F-hole(s)? I thought that the fender teles look decent with an F-hole. But, fact of the matter is, Robin wranglers look cooler than a tele and play better as well. I dunno just a suggestion to take into consideration.
I mean, in all reality, a strat style guitar really doesn't have that "look" that really fits the f-hole purpose. I think wranglers have a more classic, sophisticated look.

A Wrangler with an F hole makes more sense than a Ranger to me too, Coty (except for the fact that I absolutly hate F holes - unless it's a Gibson ES).

Hey yall, I currently have a Avalon standard and a Wrangler pro in stock. Check them out at infinityguitars.com. I also have a Savoy standard with a ebony fingerboard in Old Blonde finish on order, and a swampash Wrangler with a F Hole in old blonde finish. 6 months is not a long time to wait for these great guitars. Custom order a lame Gibson, Fender, or PRS and then you will discovery what a long wait really is.

Has anyone played a Savoy with an ebony fingerboard? What is the difference in Tone? Feel? Price?
Randy Lutz
01-12-2005, 07:58 PM
A ebony fingerboard will give you a wider variety of tone. If you want it brighter you got it. If you want it deeper just roll back the tone control and you got it. An ebony fingerboard will also give you a faster neck. The price difference is nominal.

That is what I have been reading. I also read that it gives you a more percussive attack.
Greg, is this something that we could look into on the Savoy we have on order with you?
