View Full Version : Who Do You Recommend to Work on Your Robin in Houston

Hello,

This is my first post. I have lived in Houston for the last 8 years but only discovered our favorite guitar maker a few days ago, by accident while researching a Tokai Breezysound online. I stumbled across the article in Vintage Guitar Magazine. I was very excited and immediately went to ebay to see what Robins might be for sale. Being a bit short on cash this close to Christmas, I bid on and won a modified RH-1 from a local Houstonian. Now I want to take it somewhere local to have it gone over. The Floyd Rose he added looks out of adjustment. I also want to put a Rio Grande Pickup in it, and maybe add a pickguard. Its condition and modifications don't make it much of a collector's piece, but I think it can still be a good player.

Now the questions: I know several of you in this group are from Houston. Who do you recommend locally to do this kind of work? Would a pickguard have to be custom made? Can a Muy Grande humbucker be dropped into it without any new wiring and work with the original coil tap switch?

I want to get it into top playing shape, but don't want to sink a ton of money into $210 guitar--I need to start saving for my Wrangler and Savoy Pros!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Geoff

I'd say the place to start is Bart @ Rockin' Robin in Houston... Take it in and talk it over. Rio buckers are available with 4 conductor wiring so you can still do the coiltap...

Welcome to Robinlovers...

Rockin' Robin is 5 minutes from work, so that's easy enough. I've been in there many times, but didn't know anything about its history until I read what's on this site. I presume "Bart" is Bart Wittrock who started Rockin' Robin with David Wintz?

Thanks for the quick response and the welcome,

Geoff

Yep... and Bart is also co-founder of Rio Grande pickups...
