Blatant Fender Ranger Copy

I saw one of these at Sam Ash today & it was a
cheap Robin Ranger all the way. Check out the
pickguard & the Controls.

It's a Squire 51.

I found this photo on the Fender website & while
the photo isn't very well detailed in person I
felt a little unsettled looking at this cheap
piece of Chinese or Indonesian crap posing as a
Robin. It really looks like a Robin with the
angled neck pickup like a Medley combined with
the whole Ranger Layout.

Would this be the Lawsuit model?

I've always maintained the view that as a fairly
high end carpenter these wizbangs can't take
my place even if they finally can do what I can
do because it takes years of hands on experience
to be the best ... at which point they've earned
their place.

I guess some dirtbags at Fender were groping for
some end of the market that they'll never capture.

It just iritates me that they would steal this
way without giving credit where credit is due.

Leo got paid ... although I'm real sure he got
some raw deals along the way from the business
machines ...

At the very least Dave's Design teams are getting
some recognition among the informed...

It would seem to me that since Leo Fender used that pickguard design on the original P-Bass in 1951, the Fender company has a right to use it. The Robin Ranger is the first instance I can recall of its use on a guitar...however, I don't think anyone's going to confuse a low-end Squier (not a bad guitar for the price) with a high-end Robin (a great guitar at any price)! Let's just chalk it up to imitation being the sincerest form of flattery--but who's imitating who?
